Mixing

From raw multitrack to a coherent stereo mix: balance, depth and dynamics, with up to 2 revision rounds agreed upfront.

Mix engineer at console with monitors in control room

Mixing is where separate recordings become a song. At Soredialhub in Amsterdam, mix engineer Noah Bakker works in our control room with nearfield monitors and outboard from our rack (11 units), so drums, bass, instruments and vocals stay clear without fighting for space.

You supply stems or a session export — tracked at home, from our vocal recording or band session, or a mix of both. We align on references, tempo and target loudness before the first bounce. Quotes and scheduling via contact; for file prep see how to deliver stems for mixing.

Process

  1. Intake

Send a track list, references, BPM and stems or a zip with clear folder names. Within 2 business days you get price, timeline and a 40% deposit invoice.

  2. Import

We check sync, sample rate, clipping and naming. Missing info is resolved before EQ or compression is applied.

  3. Mix

Balance, pan, EQ, dynamics and space; analog inserts where they help. First stereo bounce within the agreed turnaround.

  4. Revision

Up to 2 focused revision rounds from timestamps or bullet notes. Extra time outside the package: €78 incl. VAT.

Who mixing is for

Mixing suits solo producers, bands that tracked themselves, artists after a session in our rooms, and small labels finishing a single or EP. If you only need rough mixes for feedback, hourly billing may be enough; for release intent we quote per song or EP.

We mix pop, hip-hop, rock, electronic and spoken word with music — as long as source material is usable. Heavily distorted or unsynced files need repair time first; we flag that honestly at intake.

What to deliver

Ideal: WAV stems per element (kick, snare, overheads, bass DI and amp, guitar L/R, lead vocal, backing vocals, synths, FX), all from the same start point, 24 bit and preferably 48 kHz. Skip heavy master-bus processing on drum buses if you want maximum flexibility.

Alternative: a DAW session (Logic, Ableton, Pro Tools) plus audio fallback. Include a rough mix so we hear intent, and note tracks that must stay audible. Our stem guide covers folder names, headroom and what we cannot rescue from mp3.

Workflow in the control room

We build drums and bass first, then harmonic content and vocals. Parallel compression, bus compression and reverbs are used sparingly; the aim is translation on earbuds, car systems and laptops, not only studio monitors.

Vocal and break automation is done by hand. If you want a specific chain (tape saturation, a particular delay), say so in the brief. Major decisions stay in the project notes so revisions stay focused.

Revisions and limits

The per-song rate €185 (up to 48 tracks) includes 2 revision rounds: e.g. vocal slightly louder, snare shorter, chorus wider. Full remixes per round are out of scope or billed at €78.

Vocal editing, tuning, drum replacement or new recordings are not standard in mixing. That can go via vocal recording or by arrangement. Mastering is always a separate step with its own rate.

Delivery and formats

You receive stereo WAV at 24 bit/48 kHz (or project rate if different). Instrumentals, TV mixes or printed stems can be quoted separately. Download via secure link; bring your own SSD by appointment at Haarlemmerweg 71.

Project files are kept 24 months, then deleted unless you buy an extension. Always keep your own backup — our archive is not long-term catalog storage.

Turnaround and contact

After complete delivery we usually need a few business days per song, depending on queue and complexity. EPs are scheduled in one block for tonal consistency. Updates via email; rush only after availability check.

Office hours for questions and pickup: Mon–Fri 10–19, Sat 11–17. Monday to Friday 10:00–19:00, Saturday 11:00–17:00. Closed Sunday. Sessions outside these hours by arrangement. Address: Haarlemmerweg 71, 1014 BD Amsterdam. From Amsterdam Centraal it is about a 12-minute walk via Haarlemmerdijk and Haarlemmerweg. Bus 22 (stop Haarlemmerweg) is a few minutes away on foot. On-street bike parking and charging points; no private parking.

Recording and mastering next

Many clients track vocals or bands in our 3 rooms (live room 42 m²) and hand off to mix, which saves file ping-pong and keeps gain staging controlled. Mix can also be fully remote if you recorded elsewhere.

After mix approval, book mastering for streaming loudness and a final QC pass. Rights, crediting and file exchange are covered in FAQ and privacy policy. Legal basis: legal notice.

Frequently asked questions

How many tracks can my session have?

The fixed rate €185 covers up to 48 tracks per song. More tracks mean more routing time; we quote upfront or bill extra hours at €78.

Can I attend the mix session?

By appointment at our control room on Haarlemmerweg 71. Many clients prefer async bounces and revision lists; both work. Book via contact.

Do you mix Dolby Atmos or surround?

Standard service is stereo for streaming and download. Multichannel delivery is discussed case by case and is not included in the listed rates by default.

What if my stems are out of sync?

Small shifts we try to fix. Large sync issues need extra time or new exports from you. Send one reference bounce to avoid it, as in our guide.

Is mastering included?

No. After mix, mastering is a separate order from €75 per song or EP/album packages. Each stage stays auditable.
