Vocal recording

Sing, rap or speak in a 9 m² booth while an engineer shapes levels, headphone mix and takes with you — without rushing.

Rapper in vocal booth with mic and engineer behind glass

Listeners notice the vocal first. At Soredialhub in Amsterdam West you book time in a dedicated booth while the engineer listens from the control room and adjusts in real time. You work through our preamp pool (16 channels) and outboard rack (11 units), matched to your voice and the track.

The service suits solo artists, rappers, songwriters, demo singers and anyone who needs a clean lead before mix or release. Bring a backing track, stem exports or just lyrics and tempo; we confirm details through the contact form or phone. Preparation advice lives in our vocal prep guide.

Process

  1. Briefing

Send tempo, key, references and your beat or session export. Within 2 business days we confirm date, rate and a 40% deposit.

  2. Setup

We compare microphones, set pop filter and headphone mix, and check plosives and sibilance before take one.

  3. Takes

Full passes, targeted punch-ins and optional doubles. The engineer flags strong takes so comping stays quick.

  4. Delivery

Comping as agreed, basic edits and WAV export at 24-bit/48 kHz. Session backup stays on file for 24 months.

Who books vocal recording?

You book Vocal recording when you want a consistent studio vocal without home-setup compromises: singles, mixtape cuts, hooks over band tracks, voice-over for video, or podcast lines destined for a later mix. Even if you tracked rough vocals at home, a booth pass often adds the last detail and dynamics.

Sessions are for participants aged 16 and up. Younger artists need prior discussion and written consent from a parent or guardian. If you bring guests, keep the control room headcount small so attention stays on performance.

Microphone choice and signal path

No single mic fits every voice. We start with a short shootout: condenser for air, dynamic for loud or close rap, sometimes a ribbon-style option if the top end feels harsh. You hear each choice in your headphones and decide with us.

Gain staging uses analog front end where it helps, then digital with safe headroom. We adjust distance, pop-filter angle and breath noise before you commit to long takes. The aim is material that needs little repair in mixing.

Booth comfort and monitoring

The booth (9 m²) is controlled but not lifeless: you hear yourself naturally against the track. Glass sightlines keep you connected to the engineer. Your cue mix can emphasise beat, vocal return or a touch of reverb for pitch and timing — never forced effects.

Water, lyrics on paper or tablet and adjustable light are ready. Standing, seated or handheld delivery for certain rap sections all work. Breaks are part of the plan: tired voices rarely yield usable lines.

Singing, rap and spoken word

For singing we work verse by verse and chorus by chorus, with separate passes for high notes and ad-libs. Rappers often block by eight bars or hook sections so breath and flow stay tight. Spoken word needs tighter pause editing; we record full reads plus short retakes.

Backing vocals or stacks need extra time or a follow-up block. Every lane is labelled clearly so you or our mix engineer knows which take serves which part.

Comping, edits and exclusions

The track package (up to three takes plus comp) covers many singles. Longer songs or heavy stacks may need extra hours or the half-day rate. Comping merges the best phrases from different passes into one lead.

Heavy pitch correction or stylised tuning is not included by default in Vocal recording; we quote it separately or leave it to mix. Mastering is also separate. Recording-time tweaks stay within booked hours; structural mix changes follow the terms and conditions and a mix agreement.

Files and turnaround

Default delivery is mono or stereo WAV, 24-bit/48 kHz, aligned to the start of your beat unless you specify another zero point. Download link or your own SSD — your choice. The engineer can send a rough bounce the same day for home listening.

Project files remain 24 months on EU-region storage via TransIP B.V.. After that we delete unless you extend storage. Always keep your own copy; our archive is not a substitute for your backup.

What to bring and next steps

Bring instrumentals as WAV without guide vocals, or stem exports with clear names. Print lyrics, note BPM and key, and share two reference tracks whose vocal production you like. Your own in-ears are welcome if you rely on them.

After tracking you can book mixing with us, mix elsewhere, or plan mastering separately. Rights and session questions appear in the FAQ; legal basics sit under legal notice. Hours: Mon–Fri 10–19, Sat 11–17 — Monday to Friday 10:00–19:00, Saturday 11:00–17:00. Closed Sunday. Sessions outside these hours by arrangement.

Frequently asked questions

How long does one song take?

A three- to four-minute song with lead and a few doubles usually needs two to four hours depending on prep. The track package covers one lead with limited takes; extra stacks need more time or the half-day rate €340.

Can someone come with me?

One or two trusted people in the control room is usually fine. Larger groups distract; discuss ahead via contact.

Do you mix as well?

Yes — mixing is a separate service with its own rates and up to 2 revision rounds as agreed. You can mix elsewhere: we deliver clearly named stems.

What if I get ill before the session?

Tell us as soon as possible via email or phone. More than 7 days out we reschedule free; shorter windows follow cancellation rules and the 40% deposit.

Where is the studio?

Haarlemmerweg 71, 1014 BD Amsterdam (Westerpark). From Amsterdam Centraal it is about a 12-minute walk via Haarlemmerdijk and Haarlemmerweg. Bus 22 (stop Haarlemmerweg) is a few minutes away on foot.
